Shaping Light Through Glass

Glass is more than a housing for light, it shapes the way light is experienced. Through a slower process of making, each stage of craftsmanship influences both the character of the material and the quality of illumination. As the glass takes form, its subtle texture gently diffuses the light, creating a softer, warmer, and more even glow.

Nature Traced in Glass

Inspired by forms shaped by time in nature, the shade pairs a pebble-like silhouette with delicate ripple textures reminiscent of flowing water. Through mouth-blown glass craftsmanship, these natural traces are captured within the material, shaping the character of both the glass and the light it holds.

Glasswork in Making

Preparing the Molten Form

The process begins with molten glass gathered from the furnace. While still fluid, the material is rotated and shaped by hand, establishing the foundation from which the shade gradually takes form.

Opal Glass

A Gentle Illumination

The opal glass shapes the quality of light as much as the form itself. Filtering direct brightness, it softens the glow, while the subtle ripple textures gently diffuse the illumination, creating a warm and balanced presence.

Rippled Texture in Glass

Within the making of BELO, the ripple texture emerges naturally through the movement of the glass. What begins as a subtle trace within the material becomes both the inspiration behind the form and the foundation for the shade’s soft, layered glow.
Fire Mold Forming

Taking Shape

Once reheated, the glass becomes fluid once more. Guided into a preheated cast-iron mold, it gradually expands and settles into shape. The process brings together the precision of the mold and the natural movement of the material through control glasswork.

A Quiet Presence

Through a slower process of making, each stage of craftsmanship shapes both the character of the glass and the quality of light it holds. Defined by its rounded silhouette, opal materiality, and subtle ripple textures, BELO carries traces of the making process into everyday life, transforming the details into a soft, quiet presence of light.
